When Lake Baikal Freezes, It Creates Gorgeous Ice Formations. Lake Baikal, located in the southern part of eastern Siberia in Russia, is an incredible place that one can only hope to visit at least once in their lifetime.
It’s not just the oldest freshwater lake on Earth, it’s also one of the largest and deepest lakes holding one-fifth of the world’s freshwater.
In the winter, the lake freezes over and the water is so clear that from the surface, you can see 130 feet down!
In some areas, the ice is up to 4 feet thick.
I think I just added a new place to my bucket list…
